The Mother

La Mère is Marie Michielssen ’s first ceramic tableware line, a tender ode to the figure of the (grand)mother and to women in general. Celebrating the moment of sharing a meal together, the collection reflects the intuitive roles that women have often played in family life across generations. With a slightly nostalgic aesthetic, each piece is distinguished by an innovative vertical structure. All shapes are unique and hand-crafted.

The pieces are finished with an off-white glaze or a warm, almost black brown, and Marie chose a bold Venetian red as a contrasting color. The goal is to create a harmonious blend of white and dark brown, or red and dark brown. Some plates are decorated with universal faces of women, with a particular focus on the eyes – mirrors of the soul – and the hands – tools of creation. The proceeds from these plates are donated to a charitable cause.
